The first set of questions should establish exactly what the device is approved for and what training credit students can receive.

Training and Installation
The transition from unboxing to productive training sessions involves more than plugging in a power cord.
What does the installation process involve, and who is responsible for it? Some vendors include professional installation and calibration. Others ship the device and provide documentation for the school to set it up independently.
Does the vendor provide training for instructors on how to use the device effectively? A simulator is only as useful as the instructor operating it. Instructor training on the device's features, instructor station, and training scenario setup is critical for maximizing the training value.
Is there a user community, knowledge base, or training resource library available? Access to other schools' experiences and best practices can accelerate the learning curve for integrating the device into a training program.
Financial and Business Considerations
Beyond the sticker price, several financial questions deserve direct answers.
What is the total delivered cost, including shipping, installation, and initial training? The base price quoted in a brochure rarely includes all costs required to get the device operational.
What financing options are available? Some vendors offer leasing arrangements or financing programs that reduce the upfront capital requirement. Understanding the terms and total cost of financing helps compare options accurately.
What is the expected useful life of the device? Ask for examples of how long current customers have been operating their units and whether significant rebuilds or upgrades are typically needed during the device's life.

A vendor who is confident in their product will welcome these questions. Evasive or vague answers to any of them should prompt further investigation before committing to a purchase.
